Ted Lasso is Exactly What We Need

You’ve heard about it. Maybe you’ve watched it. But one fact is clear: you cannot escape seeing some acknowledgement about Ted Lasso. The show that has finally given Apple a bonafide hit for its Apple TV+ service is everywhere. It received 20 Emmy nominations and took home seven of those. What is it about a goofy guy coaching soccer, knowing nothing about the sport, we find so appealing? I think part of why this show sticks the landing is the state of the world. We’re still dealing with COVID and all the ripples affecting our lives. Just how Tiger King…

Twenty One Years and Waiting: The Fans Keeping Sliders Alive

“What do we do now?” Those were the final words uttered by a character in the final scene of the final episode, The Seer, of the final season of the 90’s sci-fi adventure show Sliders. The fate of humanity was in another character’s hands. He’d leaped through an interdimensional vortex and left his friends behind. The Seer’s cliffhanger would never be resolved. Those people, called “sliders”, would remain on their version of Earth forever. This ending was the result of a risky gambit by the producers to force a sixth season. They had failed, leaving fans disappointed. However, all was…

Doctor Who Goes Back to the Beginning

Huge news coming from the Hollywood Reporter regarding the Doctor Who universe. The BBC has announced that Russell T. Davies, Who’s show runner for the first few seasons, is returning to the role after 12 years. Russell T. Davies — who was instrumental in helping revive Doctor Who in 2005, ending a 16-year hiatus on TV screens — is set to make a sensational return to the BBC’s cult sci-fi series. The acclaimed and multi-award-winning TV creator behind shows such as Queer as Folk and, more recently, Years and Years, A Very English Scandal and It’s a Sin was unveiled…

Netflix’s DeLorean Documentary Series

Leave it to Netflix to get in on the action with a plethora of new DeLorean movies / documentaries recently coming out. There were no less than three DeLorean Movies out from 2018 until last year. Each one focused on John DeLorean himself. I don’t know how this was not on my radar. There may be demerits applied to my Nerd Card for this infraction. I learned only this past weekend that Netflix has released a new series titled Myth & Mogul: John DeLorean. This three episode series covers the rise and fall of John DeLorean. You may know him…

Locast is Dead

During the past few years it has been possible to get over the air (OTA) local TV stations via streaming. Locast brought local channels to any device you owned without the need for an antenna. If this sounds familiar, another company Aereo tried this back in 2012. Every major broadcaster sued Aereo into oblivion. That company lasted two years. Locast has now met a similar fate. Yesterday Locast abruptly suspended operations and cut off all transmission in the middle of the day. On Wednesday the courts ruled in broadcasters’ favor. They argued because $5 monthly donations exceeded “the actual and…

Sophomore Jinx: Home Before Dark Season Two Disappoints

As a word nerd, I was super excited when Apple announced a TV series based on Hilde Lysiak who runs the Orange Street News. Hilde has been a force in the journalism space for years as a real reporter starting at the age of 7. Home Before Dark is loosely based on her story where a kid news reporter relocates to a small town and begins asking questions nobody wants to answer. I was enthralled all through the first season and binged it in two days. For Apple TV+, it was a hit for me (this is before Ted Lasso)…
