TimeMachiner. Tech, culture, nostalgia. By Aaron Crocco
The Stream

Hi everyone. A special welcome to those of you from Land of Random who have come to check out my corner of the internet. I hope you like what you read. You can always hit reply on this email and let me know your thoughts.

The TimeMachiner Reader Survey is now open. Filling it out helps me gauge how to improve TimeMachiner to make it even better. It takes about 5-minutes to complete and I want your feedback. You can fill out the survey here: https://forms.gle/Bp4JFKhYdNL3LJtN6

Simple: I never include any tracking in TimeMachiner. My newsletters have no click tracking, analytics, or anything else. The only time I know you've done something is when you choose to click on the feedback buttons at the bottom of every issue. I'm big on privacy and in turn I respect yours.

This week I finished season 2 of Upload, the near-future dystopian comedy about the afterlife. It was a shorter season and the final episode went by so fast, I couldn't believe it was over. Now begins another long wait for whenever the next season comes.

Did anyone catch the latest Doctor Who from Sunday? That was... something. I know opinions about the Who universe can be polarizing but I'll say this: I'm happy to see a change in writing coming soon for this show. Jodie has been a great Doctor and I will miss her. But goodness, these stories have been tough.

The internet is a pretty vast ocean of information. That's why Pearl Runner is a great newsletter to check out. Mark does a great job of bringing interesting happenings to you each week. Check out Pearl Runner here.

Let's close this issue out with today's factoid:

There is a part of Yellowstone National Park where a person could theoretically get away with murder due to a loophole. Source

That's it for today. Thank you for reading.

Ban This
It’s a tale as old as time: books being banned for Reason X that Group Y feels threatened by its contents. However, an idea is something that cannot be contained. Books are one of the oldest forms of communication and to censor books goes against human knowledge. Fighting the good…
Failure To Reboot
For all the pomp and circumstance film franchises get, nothing is ever a sure bet. Many films that had humongous budgets flopped while other movies were sleeper hits. Then you get into an interesting realm: movies that were supposed to become franchises but did not pan out. The Divergent film…
There are so many gadgets and ecosystems and companies providing services these days and it’s inevitable that some (or many) will fail. Going out of business is part of doing business. Most companies don’t last forever. However, there is a glaring problem with this: companies that make products that depend…
