Galactic Starcrasher

In not-so-surprising news, Disney has announced they're shutting down its Galactic Starcruiser hotel and experience in September. You know, the two-night immersive Star Wars hotel that costs $2500 per night. Here's the short and sweet announcement from Disney.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.

The Galactic Starcruiser experience was the second article I ever posted to TimeMachiner. I was clear in my belief that, while likely an amazing experience, the price was a non-starter for most.

I can't foresee many people blowing this amount of money on a two-night experience. You can fly to nearly anywhere in the world WITH food & lodging for a longer period of time at that price tag.

The writing has been on the wall for over a year now. In March of '22, the schedule wasn't nearly full, and then only last month Disney began discounting the price by 50% to entice bookings. The conditions have been awful for this when you think about it. The economy is hurting, inflation is rampant, and people (including me at the moment) are losing jobs. Everything going against the Starcruiser was enough. These outside factors seemingly were the nail in the coffin.

Finally, this announcement is a milestone: TimeMachiner has officially outlasted something. I'll take the win.
