Read to the end for a tweet revealing the true procrastinator.

Hey there! It's Tuesday and here's a fresh issue of TimeMachiner. A big hello to everyone who's new this week. Thank you for giving me space in your inbox. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Last week because Daylight Saving Time ended, it caused TimeMachiner to send an hour earlier. Fun, right? Not really because my work on the issue wasn't done and the below note wasn't included:

If you're in America: Vote.

If you're in another country where you do vote: Vote on your next election day.

Imagine my annoyance when the issue went out with only two stories and no musings from yours truly. But, such is the world of email. There's no un-send or undo feature once my words have been pushed into the ether of the interwebs. So, let's move onto the crux of things:

Daylight Saving Time sucks. There, I said it.

The idea that we are saving anything is just poppycock. The idea of shifting the clocks to get more daylight at the end of the day is a nice idea. It's one I enjoy. Standard time is not my jam, especially when it's dark by 4:30 in the afternoon. There was a point where the US Senate thought it was time to do away with DST and stop the insanity.

Like most of the US government: it went nowhere. The once-in-a-lifetime bill that received full 100% unanimous support went to the US House and just... died? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

DST, or rather the changing of the clocks, is something that benefits nobody. Our sleep cycles are affected. Statistics have shown the change leads to more health and accident-related incidents. In fact, the US (and not even ALL states) is one of the few countries that even do this twice-a-year clock shuffle.

When our internal clocks are offset from the solar day-night cycle by even one hour we develop what sleep experts call β€œsocial jet lag.” Studies have shown social jet lag increases the risk of metabolic disorders such as diabetes, raises the risk of heart disease and stroke, worsens mood disorders such as depression, affects the digestive and endocrine systems and shortens our sleep duration. It can even reduce life expectancy

CNN

So, as someone who's been waking up for multiple days at 6:30 AM because my internal clock is all messed up, and on behalf of my mail system that got last week's not-quite-complete issue out to you, I ask that we please end the practice of "saving" daylight.

It spends exhaustion.

Onto the rest of today's issue!

Here's today's Random Factoid: The phrase "hands down" comes from horseracing. It refers to a jockey who's so far ahead that he can afford to drop his hands and loosen the reins (usually kept tight to encourage a horse to run) and still easily win. Source

You should check out Audio Angst because the music of your teens still lingers in your brain. Let’s be honest: most of us still listen to the same music that we did in our youth. Audio Angst is a weekly newsletter that celebrates pop punk music new and old. We discuss the songs that we rocked out to in the early 2000s and the new songs you need to hear.
