From the Terrible Ideas Department

Twitter's Twitter Blue premium (and paid) service posted this head-scratcher about a new 'perk' to paying the company money to use Twitter:

gm! You asked (a lot), so we made it. Now rolling out in Labs: NFT Profile Pictures on iOS

I'm not sure why people would 'need' this feature when an NFT is literally an image you can screen shot and upload as your profile photo. Even worse is the growing fad of companies jumping into NFTs as if it's some super-hot market. From what I can tell, most people have no clue what an NFT is nor can explain it. Hell, I've been working with computers since I was 5 and it took me a long time to figure out what it is.

When you buy an NFT, you're simply buying a record that points to an image or whatever the "asset" is. But that asset can change at any time. You don't own that asset nor own the location where that asset resides. This is how a "rug pull" scam happens. Someone buys an NFT and then the seller swaps out the image post-sale. Usually it's literally a photo of a rug. Because, why not.

NFTs are a fad and rife for scams & get rich quick schemes. You aren't buying ANYTHING except a record on the blockchain. Twitter has 206 million active users. I highly doubt "a lot" of them were asking for anything like this.
